Did You Know? Nashville is not the first capitol of Tennessee. Murfreesboro held this distinction briefly. It was not until 1843 that the Tennessee General Assembly officially named Nashville as the permanent capitol city. In reality, Rutherford County, where Murfreesboro is located, is the geographic center of Tennessee. This was an enormous factor in determining the location for the state capitol. |
